How to use this time card calculator with overtime

Frequently asked questions
When does overtime start?
Under federal law, after 40 hours in a workweek at 1.5× pay. Some states add daily rules — California pays 1.5× after 8 hours in a day and 2× after 12. Pick the rule that matches your state in the Overtime menu.
Do overtime hours count toward the weekly 40?
No — hours already paid at a premium aren't counted again toward the weekly threshold. The calculator prevents this double counting (called pyramiding) automatically.
What is my overtime rate?
1.5 × your regular hourly rate for overtime and 2 × for double time. Enter your rate and the calculator applies the multipliers for you.
