How to use this overtime calculator

Frequently asked questions
How is overtime pay calculated?
Overtime pay = overtime hours × regular rate × 1.5. Someone at $20/hour working 45 hours earns 40 × $20 + 5 × $30 = $950. Enter your times and rate and the split is automatic.
Who is entitled to overtime?
Non-exempt employees under the FLSA — generally hourly workers. Exempt salaried roles (executive, administrative, professional, above a salary threshold) are not. State rules can be broader.
Is overtime calculated daily or weekly?
Federally, weekly — over 40 hours per workweek. A few states add daily overtime; California is the main one, with 1.5× after 8 hours and 2× after 12 in a single day.
